Okay, so I didn’t think I’d be able to post this until sometime after Wednesday when the semester ends. But then I was working on it just a little before getting to my homework, and I kinda…uh, kept going and finished the whole thing instead? Which means I haven’t written any of my assignments and I’m leaving in just over forty-eight hours and haven’t packed so much as a single bag and ahahaha epic fail. But, oh well. Because fic, right? This chapter actually had me crying a little while I was writing it (which never happens because I am apparently very, very heartless), so, um, do not hate me for the sad bits, k? So, I finally stopped flailing over Elevator Love Letter long enough to finish the next chapter of LitToS, and now here it is. I’m feeling very efficient. Except not really. Anyway, it’s spring break, so hopefully I’ll be able to get another chapter up soonish. Seeing as how I’m being disgustingly lazy with all my sudden free time. Either that or I may write a post ELL one shot. (Look at that, it even abbreviates nicely. Clearly a sign of a perfect eppy.) Because there was a shocking lack of engaged sexing after Mer and Der kissed like the very engaged people they now are in that elevator, and this is striking me as very sad. So yeah, that is what I’m pondering today. To write another chapter or to write a one shot.  Very, very serious business as usual.

THIS CHAPTER IS A BEAST.

Sooo…this took a little longer than I would’ve liked. (See above. This chapter is a beast. For real. It about tried to kill me.) I was aiming real hard for Friday, but that ended up just not being possible. Turns out it takes a LOOOONG time to edit 9,745 words. (That’s the final tally. A little shy of the 10,000. But hopefully still acceptably longwinded. As I tend to be. Hmm…) And I’ve been editing it pretty much nonstop since I started. Which means I now have to play catch up on about a bajillion and one readings for class tomorrow, but who cares because it’s MerDer! Communicating!

And yeah, this is a relatively happier chapter. Something like the calm before the storm or what have you.  And obviously because it's gigantic, it's another annoying two parter.  This chapter doesn't have a nice convenient place to break because it's all one big, messy MerDer scene, so I'm just chopping it at the halfway point and sticking the rest in a second post.  Sorry about that.   

Also? Today’s PSA! HBR was kind enough to let me know about a crazy worm attacking the eljay. So, I thought I’d pass the word along. There’s a very helpful post that explains it here far better than I ever could, but yeah. Avoid the worms! Derek is currently too dark and depressed to de-worm you should they attack. (Ahem… I’ve only slept four hours and have drank too much coffee, so I’m just going to stop talking now. Before I start to sound even less sane. Let’s get to the actual point of this post! The fic!)

Also, there’s a flashback in this chapter and because switching posts in the middle of the flashback seemed even weirder to me, part one cuts off right at the end of the flashback, and part two is back in the present, and… IDK. So, in the past day and a half I have finished finals. And celebrated finishing finals. And recovered from celebrating finishing finals. And edited chapter six of LitToS. (While hungover, I might add, just to get it posted before I have to leave for home in the morning. So, say nice things to me please because editing while hungover? Very hard to do.) But yes, my point is… I have done many things in a short span of time. And now I am updating with fic. In short, I am feeling like a goddess of multitasking. Or something. I would like to bottle this feeling and use it to help me pack all my crap up and shovel out my car by ten am tomorrow morning, k?

But yes, the next chapter. It’s brought to you largely by Tool, who I haven’t listened to in years. But for some reason, they were a very, very helpful band this chapter. And it let me reminisce about being an angry, angsty high school student back when Tool was my one true love. This amused me greatly inside my mind. Yep, yep. Oh, and many thanks to everyone who helped answer my question about Mer/Der and their knowledge of the affair between Richard and Ellis. You are all so helpful and lovely! People seemed fairly split on the issue, so I went with what I liked best for the fic. Hopefully it sounds plausible. And hopefully Grey’s doesn’t decide to randomly clear up the issue come next eppy. Unless of course they go with something that matches my fic, in which case…go ahead, Grey’s. Make me happy.

So, this is a monstrous beast of an update. It’s the longest chapter so far, and I feel like I’ve been editing the thing all week. I think this is as dark as the story gets. But I’m not sure because I can’t objectively judge the parts that currently exist just inside my head. This one’s pretty angsty though. It is my angsty little lovechild. Or something. I guess what I’m saying is stick with it through the angst, pretty please? There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I promise it’s not a train. Yay?

So, I meant to update this yesterday at the latest.  I should just stop stop trying to predict when the next chapter will be up because clearly I am horrible at meeting deadlines.  In my defense, I've been busy.  I went to see a very serious business movie about vampires who sparkle in the sunlight and play serious business baseball because it's an American pastime.  Someone tell me, please.  Are the Twilight books this deliciously cracked out hilarious?  (Ideally we're talking many more scenes where Edward looks as sparkly as a thirteen year old girl on her way to her first school dance as he reaches new heights of emo previously only explored by Season 3 Derek.  Skin of a killer.  Sparkle.  Sparkle.)  I haven't read them, but if they are...I may need to get my hands on them immediately.  Also, Robert Pattinson is gorgeous.
